I have been having severe pain and constipation for a number
of months. I am 49-year-old male. Can this be IBS according to my doctor? My
pain is in the left lower abdomen.
First, where did your doctor train? Looks like he/she is a
dumb piece of shit. At your age, IBS is very unlikely, I think you may have diverticulitis.
The ideal test is a CT scan. You may need antibiotics. When the condition has calmed
down, you will need a barium study
. Surgery is usually advocated if you have several bouts of diverticulitis. I
would recommend changes in your diet, lose weight and avoid constipation if you
want to avoid surgery. First, you need to see a real doctor to confirm the
diagnosis.
