Pain in the anal area

I am a 20-year-old female and think I have IBS. I have noticed blood in my stools and often have pain near the anal area. What should I do?
Relax, this does not sound like IBS at all. I think you may have have an anal fissure or a hemorrhoids. The best thing is to see your doctor and have your anal area examined. In the mean time, treat your constipation, add fiber to diet, drink ample water, sit in the bath tub and soak your bottom several times a day. This will help relieve the discomfort. Most anal fissures can be cured by home therapy. However, if they fail to heal in 6-12 months, surgery is required.
